School Tours
More and more school groups are discovering a great day out at Skerries Mills. We
have a number of different tours specially created for different student age groups.
We also provide packages that include lunch at Skerries Mills, so the day is ready-
made for teachers and students. With groups from counties near and far, coach parking is available, and there are ample locations close to the Mills for fun and play activites.
Primary School Tour
Our Primary School Tour brings children through the stories and legends of the area
and gives them a glimpse into what life was like in age of windmills, when many towns in Ireland had a running windmill. Following careful restoration works in Skerries, children can step inside real historic windmills. Fun and educational in one go, primary school students love it!
Secondary School Tours
This tour brings history and culture to life for secondary students with insights into topics including agricultural innovations through the ages. The tour includes
an expert local guide, a step back in time to appreciate the enginnering that captured wind and water to produce flour, and visits to the windmills here at Skerries Mills. Surprisingly, as community heritage centre, we also have an extensive archive on local residents involved in the 1916 Rising and the Irish War of Independence.
